Open the Grace {Day Eight} 40 Gifts for 40 Days

Yesterday I shared three of the five go to practices that keep me on the right path emotionally, spiritually, & physically no matter what season I’m in.

My stabilizers.

Today we’ll discuss the last two.

Rest & Feast.

So if you’re here for the first time, you definitely should go back & read yesterday’s post.

Today’s Gift of Grace // Stabilizers {part 2}

Open the Grace {Day 8} 40 Gifts for 40 Days
4. Rest

Obviously God saw it important to build in a day for rest. From the very beginning of time it has been an integral part of the human existence. Seems like it’s worthy of our attention!

By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.

Genesis 2:2-3

Lent provides a perfect time to reset & consider our daily rhythms. A sabbath of sorts. A set aside time to refrain from the hustle & bustle of everyday life & make decisions that hold lasting affects. A time to enjoy the work of our hands.

5. Feast

In some ways Lent is as much about feasting as it is fasting.

Feasting on the good things that our Good God provides in abundance.

Forgiveness, joy, compassion…

Fasting from pleasures that will never satisfy.

Scrolling, shopping, gluttony…

“Come, all you who are thirsty,

come to the waters;

and you who have no money,

come, buy and eat!

Come, buy wine and milk

without money and without cost.

Why spend money on what is not bread,

and your labor on what does not satisfy?

Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good,

and you will delight in the richest of fare.

Isaiah 55:1-2

So here we are moving into the second week of Lent

we don’t feel very stable

& maybe our will power is waning a bit

because all this feels hard

& we’re hungry

& we’re praying for the wherewithal to see this thing through to the end…

& we remind ourselves that’s it’s not by our strength or power…

we’re on a journey

a pathway of grace.

With Grace.

Our Stabilizer.
